Tips for Keeping Your Furry Friends Calm and Happy During a Move

Moving with pets can be challenging, especially since our furry friends may feel scared, confused, and unfamiliar with the new environment. While professional movers like Chicagoland Moving and Storage can take care of your belongings, it’s your responsibility to ensure your pets—whether cats, dogs, or other animals—feel safe and secure during the transition from one home to another.

Cats:

With cats, it’s best to leave them in familiar surroundings for as long as possible before relocating them to the new home. Once there, place their food, water, and litter box in quiet, secluded areas away from the hustle and bustle of movers. This will help them stay calm and prevent them from feeling overwhelmed.

Dogs:

To help your dogs adjust to a new home, try to maintain their routine as much as possible. Stick to their regular walk times, playtime, and interaction with you and other family members. Keeping these routines intact provides them with a sense of security. Although they may initially feel anxious in the unfamiliar space, don’t worry—they’ll adapt within a few days.

If your dog is a puppy or still in training, designate a specific area in your new home where they can continue their training. This will help them understand their boundaries and prevent accidents.

Birds:

If you have birds, make sure to use a carrier for transport. Consider taking them on a few short trips beforehand to gauge how they’ll react during the actual move.

We hope these tips make your next move smoother for you and your pets!
